Dave Ensor's site, www.peekyou.com is down because of Sandy. NYOUG is up
and running. Any other disaster stories?

I had some HTTP-500 error on YouTube today. Not sure if it's Sandy related...

Lots of trees down when I was running today ... had to go over /
through / around / under ...

Oldest daughter hanging out at Rose Hill campus ( Fordham ) and not
hearing much from her. Probably forgot to charge her cell phone
( again ).

Hard to restart college classes when so much of the transportation
system is down.

I hope there are no real casualties and you're all alive and kicking.

Warm regards

My brother-in-law and his family live in Maryland and they're fine, a little worse for wear from the winds, rain and lack of power but otherwise no worries. I do have some contacts in Rochester and D.C. and reports there are that power is still out to many areas interrupting cell phone and land line service, as well as internet access. If you can't contact loved ones and friends that's the most likely reason, since the casualty count is reported to be low.

Nuno;

# Can't raise a few friends who live circa NY.

More than a few areas still without power ... impacting to some extent
internet/cellular communications.

More than a few smaller web sites still down.

Most normal people came out fine ... just a bunch of people getting
frustrated and want their power restored pronto.

Just got news that Rachel Carmichael and a few others are fine, just
without power.
That was a BIG relief!

This was good for a giggle:

Google about for pix of fleets of flooded taxicabs, masses trying to
get on buses, mobs desperate to charge their cellphones, hospitals
emptying out because they put the generator in the basement that
flooded, and gas shortages. And stories of people hiking up 22
flights to apartments with no power or water.

How to make Kevin tweet a lot:

"were now putting software onto the silicon" I were watching people do
that in the '70s.

Hey, the first 5 years of my married life we lived in an appartment in Europe
where water didn't have enough pressure to reach the 10th until around 2am, and
the lift power went off 5 days a week.
I got the perfectly toned legs(cough!...) I have today out of carrying 20 litre
jerry cans of water up the 10th floor via never-ending stairs, twice a day...
See, it's actually good for your health. And we didn't need no stinken hurricanes!

A few more computer disaster links in http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/27.07.htm
including one about people running bucket brigade up stairs to
generator on roof because fuel pumps in flooded basement shorted out.
