troubles with MySql 5.5 and VB

sorry for my bed english, hope you can understand my problem:
have 5.5.17 installed and try to make a conaction from a VB-Program
(vb2010 express). Found a sampleprogram from MySql called TableEditor.
I tried to connect with this program, but it also cant connect.
With the MySql-workbench i dont have a problem.
Has someone an idea?

I doubt you will find much of help here, as you don't seem to have an issue
with MySQL (it's up and running and mysql-workbench can connect and you can
access the data, at least I assume that).

If you can't connect then it will be one or more of:
1. You don't have the right driver/connector installed. Go to
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/ and download the appropriate
connector.
2. The connection string isn't right.
3. Firewall is blocking the connection. This will only be an issue if your
database is on a different machine. If when running MySQL Workbench you are
connecting from your machine succesfully then the firewall won't be the
problem.
