My company is going to migrate from MSOffice2003/WinXP to MSOffice2010/Win7 over the next 6 months. My Security Department has an A2003 customized replication application (SIMS) which obviously will be affected by this upgrade. As a test on a MS Office 2010/Win7 computer,I created a “Local Disk (C:)\SIMS” folder and copied the same 10 files as in our present A2003/WinXP setup into that folder. Thse 10 file names and types are:
1. Admin.ico
2. Employees 1-column.xls
3. Employees 2-column.xls
4. MSAccess.exe
5. SIMS shortcut
6. SIMS.mdb
7. SIMS_Backend.mdb
8. SIMS_Backend Backup.mdb
9. SIMS_Backup.mdb
10. SIMS Secured.mdw

Since our users can only access the application thru a icon placed on their desktops, I ‘Sent’ the 'test' SIMS Shortcut to the 'test' Desktop and clicked on it. I received the following message:
“The operating system is not presently configured to run this application.”

The message doesn’t offer any ‘Help’ or suggestions as to how to configure the Windows7 OS to run “this application" which I would have thought was MSAccess, meaning MSAccess is MSAccess. Windows7 should be configured to run MSAccess 2003 regardless.

Does anyone have any idea what that message means and any possible solutions to it?

Thanks much for any assistance...Earl

Unless I totally misunderstand what you have done you have not actually
installed MS Access which is why you are getting the message. Just copying
MSAccess.exe is not an installation. What you need for your testing is a
machine with Windows 7 and Access 2010 installed correctly.

My fault for not elaborating--the test machine is setup with Win7 and MSOffice 2010 (which file default MSAccess is shown as 2007). I might add that the MSACCESS.exe is in the SIMS folder because the desktop icon that starts SIMS looks for the executable there since different machines have Access loaded in different directories. This method assures Access is started from the same location. Also, not sure of the fact that the test machine is the 64bit version of Win7 and not the XP 32bit version where SIMS was developed. Hope this clarifies my situation. Thx...Earl
