If I have a backup image from (7.2 FP6), can I restore it under DB2 8.1? Thanks!

Yes. The RESTORE will migrate it to v8.

Yes you can restore the v7* backup image on v8* but v7 and v8 should
have same platform. Your database will be migrated as well from 7.2 to
v8 after restore is completed successfully.

Amar.

If we have 7.2 32bit version on AIX and want to go to 8.1 64bit, can
we use back/restore approach
Or we have to go 7.2 32 -> 8.1 3.2 -> 8.2 64

thanks in advance,
dmitri

Dmitri, the bad news is that 32-bit V7 images and 64-bit V8 images are
not compatible, so direct restore migration is not possible. The good
news is that this type of problem has been solved in V8, so that V8
32bit/64bit backup images on AIX/Sun/HP are now all interchangable.

Hope that helps.
