Hello Group,

I've got a relatively simple situation that has been presenting me with a big
headache.

FMP 12 Adv / Mac

Database has a container field with an external reference that was created by FMP & is found in the same folder as the database. Access to 90 images is done on a daily basis.

Everything works just fine.

The problem arises when I want to transfer these items, work on them & transfer them back. The transfers are done through the internet or even by a physical back-up.

I import the data to a 2nd database that is a copy of the 1st that I am often improving. The referenced images are in a sub-folder in the same folder as the database.

When I transfer the database & referenced folder back to the 1st machine, the images are lost as soon as I open it up.

There is no server involved.

I would really appreciate some guidance.

Thank you,

Keith

In article <b2415d09-87ac-4eaf...@googlegroups.com>, Keith
Nobody else seems to have answered this yet, and unfortunately I have
never needed to use external references for images ... but my guess would
be that FileMaker might be storing full paths to the images and those full
paths are not the same on both computers. It could be a different hard
drive name, and different user folder name, etc.

If possible, the best option would be to store relative paths (relative to
the FileMaker database document) rather than full path names. If they're
already relative paths, then there must be something slightly different
somewhere (e.g. an extra space in the folder name on one computer).

Otherwise, the only real option is to set the images to work on the most
important computer and ignore them missing from the "unimportant"
computer.

Harry I have responded in a PM to the OP. I attached a file, which
usenet doesn't support. Therefor I went outside the group.

Thank you Helpful Harry. As Erik said, he helped me find the solution.
