Problem closing windows

files. When I close multiple windows at once by holding down the option
key while closing, the windows close and a dialog box appears for one of
the files and asks for a password to open it. It's not one of the files
that I just closed, it's a file that's related to one of the guys I just
closed. I don't know why it does this.
If anyone can shed some light I'd be grateful.

Check the "on close" script you have defined in the file options. One of
them might need the related file.

don't have such a script.
And this only happens if I actually do something. If I just look at the
file it closes properly.

There may be no closing script in the file you are closing, but after
you "did something", there were other files opened (perhaps hidden,
perhaps not), and one of those files has a close script you should check
for.

When opening new files FileMaker usually tries to use the same password as
the parent file, so you might need to check the Passwords, Access
Priviledges, etc. to make sure all the files are set-up correctly there too.

I haven't really looked into the passwords / privileges options of newer
versions of FileMaker. You might be able to delete it (try on a backup file
first) or at least change it to a blank password.

Filemaker 7 and later creates a default account "Admin" with a blank
password and full access whenever you create a new file.

Of course there is, if you are able to open the file with full access.
Two ways to go:
In the file option, you can tell the file to use a certain account name
and password all the time unless it is opened while the shift or alt key
is pressed.
Further, FMP will not ask for a password the file that opens your file
because it's related have the same account name and password.

Okay, I'll change it to Admin so it'll open without a prompt. But if I
never gave it a password in the first place, you're saying that after
FMP 7 it will ask for one anyway?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're saying here. Going back to my original
problem (which I've yet to figure out how to fix) I have an index that
opens all the files in this particular group. Opening a file off this
layout works fine but opening a file from the finder brings up the
password window. I'm guessing you're saying that's how it should work
and if you are, I understand.
