Since the link to http://www.ece.ubc.ca/spmg/research/jpeg/jpeg_ls/jpegls.html
seems to be _dead_ I was wondering if anyone that already has
acquired the source code could share it with me? I'm about to make a
project at The Technical University of Denmark about investigation of
image compression for space applications and therefore it would be
very helpful to have the JPEG-LS source code.

Has it been used in space? LOCO (what JPEG-LS is based upon) is over
on Mars. :)

Well, if you just need lossless compression, then JPEG-LS wins the
competition. Not by much in performance, but by one to two orders of
magnitude in speed (and simplicity). Near-lossless mode of JPEG-LS,
however, cannot compete with true lossy codecs.
