1-2 Lectureships in Computing Science at Chalmers University of Technology

The department is responsible for teaching computing science to both
engineering students at Chalmers University and science students at the
University of Gothenburg. We currently teach about 60 courses, ranging from
first year to graduate level. About 50 students majoring in computing
science graduate each year.

The Department has about 30 staff members and about 25 PhD students. We have
several research projects funded by Esprit, and by the Swedish Government
agencies TFR and NUTEK. Our major topics of research are programming logic
and type theory and functional programming. Other areas of research activity
include algorithms and discrete optimisation, cognition technology,
concurrency, distributed systems, and formal methods in system design.

Our current aim is to strengthen our teaching base with new lecturers who
can take responsibility for leading and further developing our undergraduate
courses in the areas of: databases, object-oriented program construction,
user-interfaces and human-computer interaction, and computer-communication.
Consequently, a research interest related to one or more of these areas will
be considered an advantage.

As a lecturer, you will be expected to divide your time between teaching,
research, supervision of research students, and administration. Over the
next few years, we expect that undergraduate teaching will account for about
half your work load. How much time you have for research will depend on
external grants. We provide special funds to guarantee 50% research in the
first year for new lecturers.

To apply, you must have a PhD and well-documented pedagogical skills,
including undergraduate-level teaching experience in core areas of computer
science. The department aims to ensure that its lecturers have so-called
"docentkompetens", (i.e., a few years of post-PhD research). Teaching is
largely in Swedish, with some courses taught in English. Applicants must
therefore be fluent in Swedish and/or English. The department is actively
seeking to increase the number of women among its staff. Salary levels are
determined individually.
