Use of Mips/W/$ as a measure for architectural comparison
There has been a somewhat heated discussion on reddit ([link]) about the merits of this measure. Many posters seem to have misunderstood what I was comparing, which points to a bug in the presentation that I will try to fix. Here's my... more »

Directory organization in multi level caches with non-uniform block sizes
Hi I'm making a simulation model of a multi-level hierarchical cache system, that uses a directory-based MESI protocol. Every cache has a directory. The directory entry for a block stores information about the state of the block and the list of lower-level caches that own a copy of the block.... more »

belt architecture
Probably the most interesting part of the Mill is the belt architecture. I'd like to say what I think it is, so Ivan can correct my misunderstandings. 1. The belt only moves when an operation puts something on it. I think Ivan said this. 2. The writes to the belt occur between the execution of blocks. I don't see how it could... more »

I am doing this because I want to make industrial robots (CNC machines to be exact), and they will obviously need some method to control them. Although I first considered making dumb circuts to do this, I eventually... more »

Mill instruction set encoding
Because you require all instructions in a bundle to be the same size, doesn't that mean common instructions like move, add, branch (or skip), no-op, etc. will need to have redundant encodings in each size? For example, the 9-bit format will have encodings for all of these, as will the 10-bit format, 11-bit, etc.?... more »
