SAC '03:

For the past seventeen years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing
(SAC) has been a primary gathering forum for applied computer
scientists, computer engineers, software engineers, professionals in the
health and biological sciences, and application developers from around
the world to interact and present their work. SAC 2003 is sponsored by
the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP). Its
proceedings are published by ACM in both printed form and CD-ROM. They
are also available on the web through ACM Digital Library. More

Authors are invited to contribute original papers in all areas of
experimental computing and application development for the technical
sessions.

Special Track on "Computer Applications in Health Care" (COMPAHEC 2003):

Advances in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have
provided the tools and the environment to study, analyze, and better
understand complex medical problems. This technological development has
enabled resear chers to provide increasingly advanced services,
including Computer Assisted Radiology, Telemedicine, Robotized
Teleoperating Systems, etc.

In recent years, research in Computer Applications applied to Health
Care has dramatically intensified. The Track "Computer Applications in
Health Care" in SAC 2003 aims to provide a platform for researchers to
present and discuss recent breakthroughs in this area.

Major topics of interest include the following in the context of Health
Care. This is not an exhaustive list:
* Computer applications for medical informatics.
* Computer applications for medical imaging.
* Computer applications of medical image segmentation.
* Computer applications for 3D reconstruction in medical imaging.
* Web programming and engineering involving health care applications.
* Programming methodologies in applications for health care including object
oriented, subject oriented, component oriented, aspect oriented, table
oriented, agent oriented, human oriented, genetic and evolutionary
programming, fuzzy programming and hybrid paradigms.
* Theoretical aspects of computer programming with a clear practical potential
in applying the results to health care.
* Computer applications for telemedicine and telecare applications.
* Methodologies for e-health, telehealth and knowledge management integration
in intranets and the Internet.
* Computer applications for teleteaching of health care.
* Theoretical or practical ICT applications involving health care.
* Artificial Intelligence in health care.
* Decision support systems, including knowledge based systems, neural
networks,
belief networks, statistical models, fuzzy models, evolutionary programming,
hybrid systems, and intelligent agents.
* Knowledge recovery in databases, including data mining methods such as
clustering, classification, Bayesian networks, association rules, and
visualization.
* Evidence-based health care including computer assisted diagnosis and
prognosis,
risk analysis, example-based learning, problem-based learning and case-based
reasoning.
* Human-computer interaction including human factors, cognitive modelling,
problem solving strategies, linguistic comprehension, user interface design,
direct manipulation techniques and virtual reality.
* Health care information systems and groupware, including computerized
patient
records, survey applications in health care specialities, decision support
systems, clinical information system design architectures and electronic
document interchange and computer-supported collaborative work.
* Any other computer application in health care.

PAPERS
Authors are invited to submit original papers in all areas of
experimental computing and application development relevant to the
themes of the track.

Submissions fall into the following categories:
* Original and unpublished research work
* Reports of innovative computing applications in the sciences, engineering,
and business areas of Health Care
* Reports of successful technology transfer to new problem domains
* Reports of industrial experience and demos of new innovative systems

Peer groups with expertise in the track focus area will blindly review
submissions to this track. Papers will be selected based on their
originality, timeliness, significance, relevance and clarity of
presentation. The accepted papers in all categories will be published in
the ACM Press SAC 200= 3 proceedings. Expanded versions of selected
papers from all categories will be considered for publication in the
ACM/SIGAPP Applied Computing Revi ew (SIGAPP ACR). In addition, it is
being examined the possibility of organizing Special Issues in journals
related to the themes of the track. Thes= e Special Issues will include
a collection of the best papers accepted in the track.

Paper submissions should be sent to the Track Chair. Papers spanning
more than one track should be mailed to the Program Chairs. For more

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The following paper submission guidelines must be strictly followed:
1) Submit the original paper to Track Chair to vma...@unex.es .
2) The name(s) and address(es) of the author(s) must not appear in the body
of the paper, and self-reference should be in the third person. This
is to facilitate blind review.
3) The body of the paper should not exceed 4,000 words (approximately 15
pages, double-spaced, 12-point font size).
4) A separate file containing a cover sheet should include the title of the
paper, the name(s), affiliation(s), and address(es), email, phone, and
fax of the author(s).
5) Include an electronic cover letter with the title of the paper, the name,
affiliation, address, email, phone, and fax of the author who serves as
the contact person for the paper.
6) Submission must be received by e-mail by Friday September 6, 2002.
Electronic
submission is encouraged. Hardcopy and fax submissions will not be
accepted.

REFEREES
The quality of papers in the COMPAHEC 2003 will depend on the willingness
of educators, researchers and others interested in this track to
serve as referees. Referees will receive at most three papers for
review. Papers will be sent shortly after the September 6 submission
deadline. Referee reports must be RECEIVED no later than Monday,
October 11. Please respond to this Call for Referees before August 10
to indicate your interest in serving as a referee for the COMPAHEC
Track at SAC'03. Please indicate your Name, Institutional
Affiliation, Postal Address, Telephone, Fax, Email, Keywords
describing your areas of expertise, List of related publications i n
last 2 years and Short CV (up to two pages) with related items. The
Track Program Chair address is shown above.

to August 31, 2002. International authors, please note that the
travel advisory for India by the US Department of State and the
UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been relaxed.

KBCS is the premium International AI Conference held in India.
Don't miss out on it!

The KBCS series of conferences, held every two years, is intended to
act as a forum for promoting interaction among researchers in the field
of Artificial Intelligence in India and abroad. The schedule includes
a three-day conference on KBCS from Dec 19-21, and one day of tutorials,
on the 18th. Papers are invited on substantial, original and unpublished
research on all aspects of Artificial Intelligence, including, but not
limited to those given below.
This year, ICON-2002, International Conference on Natural Language
Processing, will be held concurrently with KBCS-2002. Authors may,
therefore, choose to submit papers focusing on Natural Language
Processing (NLP) to ICON-2002. KBCS-2002 will also consider NLP papers
provided they have substantial AI content. The programme committee may
shift some papers between these two conferences based on content and
suitability.

FORMAT OF SUBMISSION:
Papers should be in English, not exceeding 5000 words (including
figures and references). Papers should include an abstract of about
100-200 words. Papers outside the specified length are subject to
rejection without review. Since reviewing will be "blind", the authors'
names and affiliations along with the main area of the paper should be
given only on a separate cover sheet. Authors should also exercise
care to see that there aue no indirect clues to the identity of the
author or the institution (e.g. self-citations reading 'in our earlier
work cited below' ... etc)
Submissions should be in electronic form and can be in any of the
following formats: PDF, Latex or Microsoft Word (RTF format). Papers
may be submitted by E-mail or via the web at the URL given. Those who
are unable to make electronic submissions may send four hard copies of
the paper. Papers selected for the conference will be published in the
proceedings.

CALL FOR TUTORIALS:
Proposals are invited for conference tutorials. Tutorials can be of
half-day or full-day duration. The proposal should be presented in the
form of a 200-word abstract, one page topical outline of the content
and bio-data of the speakers, including their qualifications relating
to the tutorial content.
