Is this still the best Neural Network form/group?

Seems like activity here has really fallen off.

I would expect migration to an actual web forum to take place
eventually due to the limitations of a newsgroup.

The ability NOT to be able to post charts/graphs/pictures is very
frustrating in Groups.

There are many people who do not like web forums at all because of the
time involved with connecting to many different forums. Usenet is
effectively all in one place and one daily session can check all
changes.

With most news applications it's easy to post with any type of
attachments and avoid overloading text groups.

Seems like this group is now inundated with Call for Papers which is
really annoying. In fact, I'd almost call that stuff SPAM.

I could never use the "what has changed" feature of NGs since I would
have one big list of SPAM with about 5% content - so that feature
really is long gone.

But I did notice that the only 2 responses are pro-NG and do not
mention if this is still the best place for discussion. Because if it
is, there is a definite decline in participation. And my opinion on
that is because of all this SPAM.

That would include me. I am very frustrated by the fact that I have to log in to three different sites -- not including Google Groups -- if I want to discuss or read about Numpy, Matplotlib (two very popular Python extensions for scientific work), and GROMACS (a popular, open-source tool for molecular dynamics simulations). Sometimes I can have the feeds from those sites emailed to me, but that generates its own special type of clutter.

I've read some complaints on comp.lang.python. Google Groups apparently formats Usenet posts in ways which are giving people using email-based news readers some difficulty. I wish that Google would fix that. We don't need to give more people reasons to abandon Usenet.

Yes, but then you have to take your XL file or GIF or JPEG and host it somewhere like PhotoBucket. THEN you have to go there and get the link. THEN you copy and paste it to the Group text. I don't know if Google automatically makes it a clickable link or if you have to THEN open a new browser window THEN copy and paste it in the address line and PRESS Enter.

I'm not going to take the time to host some file just so I can provide someone with a URL to it. If I did that, I'd have no time to do anything else.

And most forums have an email all updates option. I don't know about filtered updates.

Anyhow, I never like NGs and now with all this "SPAM" this site is torture to use and frankly, there seems to be less and less activity here to boot. My guess is the SPAM is really that and discouraging others too.

Thanks
