1. Driverless Cars ? Are they imminent ?
Seems like they are not:(

Which of the following applications in entertainment will come up
first ? or Will they ever ? What is the research happening in each of
these areas ?
2.Song/Music generation - An application which generates Song/Music
according to a set of input characteristics (Like Genre,Voice type).
Not sure whether it is ever possible for this generated music to pass
its own version of Turing test - that it will not sound like something
generated by a machine.
3.Automatic story generator. Based on genre/style this application
should be able to spit out a novel/story that makes sense to us. Has
this been tried ?
4.Extreme ! Automatic movie generator. On similar lines will there be
ever an intelligent movie maker application which can generate a
movie .
Will I be able to witness any of these in my lifetime ? Are there any
applications remotely capable of doing these things ?
Comments !
[ I am responding based on quite old informations.]

The first experiment seemed to be one in US half a century ago,
where trucks with a device mounted were automatically driven
with the guide of radio signals coming from the sides of the route.

A machine generated music composition was premiered, at an IFIP congress
in the nineteen sixties. It's not very bad.

Sense could depend on the person. See e.g. the Eliza of J. Weizenbaum.

I heard that some cartoons are largely the product of machines. Anyway,
machine generated picures seem to compete not too poorly with pictures
of some modern schools of painting.

Depends very much on the environment. An environment in which all the
cars are auromatic and there are no pedestrians (a motorway type
environment is easier in fact thn the DARPA challenge. This is because
the behaviour of all the other cars is abslutely predictable.
There are some things hat could be done no. Cars could be programmed
to keep a constant didtance to the car in front and initiate braking
based on a laser/acoustic rangefinder. Congestion would be eased
considerable at lights if vehiches would start moving toether and not
start moving in a wave. Also it ould be an idea if an automaic car
could time its arrival at lights to coincide with green. The automatic
system would, of course, be linked electronically to the light.

Seems that song composition is already on its way. Music has ben
constructed to a set of rhymic rules.

No! Lets take the story of Snow White and the poisoned apple. In
Arabic You say bsm Alah (Buchwalter transliteration) besm Alah - In
the name of Allah. I was thinking about Alan Turing. He knew the story
of Snow White and committed syucide by eating an apple laced with
cyanide. I was wndering whether "Bsm" could be b sm (bi sama - by
poison). Alan Turing a victim of Religion and its hypocsy.
A moments reflection tells us that Snow White would, if achieved
represent the holy grail of AI. Linguistic understanding.

You will be able to have dynamic simlations. You will be able to piece
a movie together. For the treasons above the creative step will have
to be aken by humans. You will however be able to get lots of
different scenes from old movies by information retrieval.
