The Seventh International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces
       IUI 2003

January 12-15, 2003
The Palms South Beach Hotel - Miami Beach, Florida, U.S.A.

     Conference home page: http://www.iuiconf.org

Conference Overview
-------------------

Intelligent user interfaces mediate between person and machine to
increase the ease and effectiveness of user interactions.  Research in
intelligent user interfaces draws on areas such as artificial
intelligence and human-computer-interaction to support a wide range of
users, from novices to experts; to support a wide range of tasks and
task environments; and to exploit a wide range of platforms, from
traditional systems to mobile devices and novel interaction paradigms.

IUI is the annual meeting of the intelligent interfaces community, and
serves as the principal international forum for reporting outstanding
research and development in intelligent user interfaces.  IUI 2003,
the Seventh IUI, will be held The Palms South Beach hotel in Miami
Beach, Florida (www.thepalmshotel.com), from January 12-15, 2003.

Student Program
---------------

The student program for IUI 2003 will be similar to that of years past
but with some useful additions. We have organized the program so that
both those who volunteer to work at the conference and those who do
not will benefit.

Student Message Board
---------------------

We have created an electronic discussion forum so that you may
communicate with other students prior to the conference. The forum is
intended to help you find ways to reduce the overall cost of the
conference. Please use it to find others with whom you might share
expenses such as hotel rooms and transportation. The forum is
Web-based and is publicly accessible at the following URL:
http://dollar.biz.uiowa.edu/discus/
by selecting the link entitled: "IUI 2003 Student Message Board".

Student Volunteers
------------------

This year we will need approximately eight student volunteers to help
with tasks such as unpacking conference materials, setting up and
manning the registration desk, and packing up when the conference has
ended. If you would like to apply to be a student volunteer, please
send an email to shannon-brads...@uiowa.edu with the subject: "IUI 2003
Student". To your email please attach a one page description of your
research interests, outlining any ongoing work of which you are a
part. If you will be presenting a paper or poster at the conference
please include the title of your presentation. Review of applications
will begin December 14 and continue until all positions are
filled.

Compensation
------------

While, student volunteers must register for the conference and pay
the appropriate advanced registration fee, volunteers will be
compensated for registration, travel, or lodging expenses in the
amount of $215. Within 10 days following the conference, all
volunteers should mail original (please make copies) receipts to:

Shannon Bradshaw
Dept. of Management Sciences
108 Pappajohn Business Bldg.
Iowa City, IA 52242-1000

With your receipts, please include your email address, phone number,
and the mailing address to which your check should be sent.

Questions?
----------

Any questions regarding student-related matters should be directed to
Shannon Bradshaw, IUI'03 Student Programs Chair, at
