coordinates not lining up

Any idea why my coordinates are not landing in the right places? I put
in 17.15 and -62.39 and that should show up on the left side of St.
Kitts. I'm on a boat with a GPS so know the coordinates are right and
I also confirmed it on Google Earth. The CommunityWalk map puts me on
the other side of Nevis - pretty far south and east of where I should
be.

If you look at the map in satellite view does it line up any better?

Nope. As you can see by the attached picture it's still way off. The boat I did by hand (and is correct) the plane is where it ends up if I put it in via coordinate.

On a separate issue, When I click on the photo I added from my blog (where I inserted the code) it takes me to the communitywalk site - in the editing function. Can I not get this to go to a separate tab of just a photo. Same for the website info I attached to the description (I want a separate tab to come up going to the restaurant's website - not to communitwalk).

Here it is on Google Earth - you can see that it's on the correct side of the island (the right).

I'm afraid I don't have a good answer for you, but you can manually move the marker to where ever you want it to be. If the lat/lng gets you close then you can just move the marker into the exact spot manually.

Hmm. I'm going to be putting a lot businesses in by their coordinates (many are just shacks). If the map is off then all the coordinates will be off. Eyeballing it wouldn't be too accurate. I'll have to think of something else. I've been trying to work with Google Maps but you can't put coordinates in. This is becoming a pain in the butt. Appreciate your quick response.

Renee,

Also, please make sure that the coordinates are in lat/lng form (eg. -90 to 90, -180 to 180).

Sorry I can't be more help.

Yeah, as I said I put in 17.15 and -62.39.  The problem is definitely your underlying map. On your community map, I moved the placemark to where I wanted it and then exported it via your Share/Export function to Google Earth and it came up exactly right where it should (at the coors I just mentioned).  Yet when I put those coors directly in your placemark it comes out somewhere else. Of course, Google Earth is also slightly off (that coor is not that far off the coast - but it was a lot closer than your map).

We don't have much control over the maps. They come directly from Google. Unfortunately they provide slightly different maps to us then they use on their own site...
