I had this idea yesterday as I considered my stalled CE project. What
I need is inspiration… success stories… notes from those of you out
there who are so far ahead of me.

So my idea – why not bring the community together in a much more
interactive way; why not plan a CE users conference?! Right Vegas,
the Hard Rock Hotel? Bruno-gone-wild after rounds of vodka shots!!
You get the picture right? Haha I kid… While that would be great to
see and could someday be a reality… why don’t we start small and
cheap.

Lets think of the 1st annual CE user’s conference, as a 2-3 hour
virtual meeting of the minds. We can use a site like DimDim to host a
webinar where CE newbies and pros alike could come present and learn
on a variety of topics and interactive Q&A sessions.

With that said, my next task is to gauge the overall interest within
the CE community.

Here’s what I need to know:
Are you interested?
What would be a great topic?
Can I talk you into presenting on a topic for 15-20 mins?
Would a Saturday or Sunday afternoon work best for everyone or a
weeknight ?
How’s late Jan or early Feb sound for everyone?
Have any interest in helping me organize it?

To help sweeten the idea, Bruno’s said he’d give away a free CE plug-
in to a lucky conference participant!

What do you think?

Are you interested? Yes!
What would be a great topic? a)Showcase sites running CE b)Designing for CE c)Extending CE
Can I talk you into presenting on a topic for 15-20 mins? Maybe

Would a Saturday or Sunday afternoon work best for everyone or a
weeknight ? Tough question... weeknights are more predictable, weekends allow for more time.
How’s late Jan or early Feb sound for everyone? Works for meh!
Have any interest in helping me organize it? Sure.

Sounds great, count me in!

Topic ideas: maybe expanding the CE literature, making a mind-map of
the CE routing, etc?

Good idea, I think this would be really cool. I found CE very helpful
when I was just trying to learn RoR in general. I'd be interested in
seeing some demos and different ways people are using CE (things they
like, the extent to which CE is leveraged, how they went about
redesigning, etc.) Count me in.

As a newbie starting to toy with CE, I definitely be interested in
hearing about other people's experiences.

Great idea!

I participated in Ubuntu Open Week [1] a few weeks ago. It's just an organized IRC discussion, and it was a great success. The schedule and rules were very helpful for presenters as well as viewers and kept the discussions on track and on time.

Perhaps an IRC channel on freenode would work... or maybe Campfire from 37signals would fill the need.

Thanks.

I love this idea. If you are keeping a list, kindly add me to it. I'll
also come here more often, as I'm starting another CE project next
week :-)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think we have enough interest to
move things forward, but it would still be great to hear from the rest
of you out there. Add a reply to this message so I know to keep you
in the loop !

Look for more details on timing and topics come the New Year.

Absolutely! I just started developing on the CE platform and would
really appreciate learning from people who are far ahead of me. Having
a very difficult time trying to understand CE enough to extend it for
my project.

It's great to see more interest. I'll add you three to the list and I
plan on sending out a general announcement with more details mid
January !

Happy Holidays all.
