*Tunisia: Front of January 14*
**
**
*
**This January 20, 2011, several organizations of the radical left in
Tunisia, in particular the PCOT (Communist Party the Workmen of Tunisia)
and the PTPD (Patriotic and Democratic Labour Party), were constituted
in a Front. This front bears the name of "Front of January 14" in
reference to the date of the flight of Ben Ali, the deposed president.*
The particular purpose of the Front of January 14 is to organize
resistance to the current government of transition which is still made
up of the chieftains of the RCD (Rassemblement Constitutionnel
Dmocratique), the party of Ben Ali, and to build a popular alternative
resulting from the vigilance committees created in many districts of
Tunisia for self-defense from the terror sown by the RCD apparatus and
the presidential police force. The Front of January 14's call is
addressed to all progressive political, trade-union and social forces to
achieve the objectives of the Tunisian popular revolution.

Affirming our engagement in the revolution of our people which fought
for its right to freedom and national dignity and made great sacrifices,
including tens of martyrs and thousands of wounded and prisoners, and in
order to complete the victory against interior and external enemies and
to be opposed to any attempts to crush the fruits of these sacrifices,
we constituted "the Front of January 14" as a political framework which
will apply itself to the advancement of the revolution of our people
towards the achievement of his objectives and to oppose to the forces of
counter-revolution. The Front consists of national democratic and
progressive parties, forces and organizations.
The urgent tasks of this Front are:
1. To make fall the current government of Ghannouchi or any
government containing symbols of the old regime which applies
an antinational and antipopular policy and serves the
interests of the deposed president.
2. The dissolution of the RCD and confiscation of its
headquarters, its property, its financial assets and funds,
since they belong to the people.
3. The formation of a temporary government which enjoys the
confidence of the people and the militant progressive
political, social, and trade-union forces, and of the youth.
4. The dissolution of the House of Representatives and the
Senate, all the current artificial bodies and the High Council
of the magistrature and the dismantling of the political
structure of the old regime and preparation of the election of
a constituent assembly within a maximum of one year in order
to formulate a new democratic constitution and to found a new
legal system to frame the public life which guarantees the
political, economic and cultural rights of the people.
5. Dissolution of the political police force and the adoption of
a new policy of safety based on the respect of human rights
and the superiority of the law.
6. The judgement of all those who are guilty of stealing the
people's money, and of those who committed crimes against the
people like repression, imprisonment, torture and humiliation,
whether in the decision-making or in the execution, and
finally of all those who are convinced of corruption and
diversion of public goods.
7. The expropriation of the former reigning family and their
close relations and associates and of all the civil servant
who used their position to grow rich at the expense of the people.
8. The creation of employment for the unemployed and urgent
measurements to grant compensation for unemployment, a larger
Social Security cover and the improvement of purchasing-power
for the employed.
9. The construction of a national economy in the service of the
people where the vital and strategic sectors are under the
supervision of the State, the renationalization of those
institutions which were privatised, and the formulation of an
economic and social policy which breaks with the liberal
capitalist approach.
10. Guarantee of public and individual freedoms, in particular
freedom of expression and to organisation, freedom of the
press, information and thought; release of prisoners and the
promulgation of a law of amnesty.
11. The Front hails the support of the popular masses and the
progressive forces in the Arab world and the whole world for
the revolution in Tunisia, and invites them to continue their
support by all the possible means.
12. Resistance to normalisation with the Zionist entity and its
penalization and the support for the national liberation
movements in the Arab world and the whole world.
13. The Front calls all the popular masses and nationalist forces
and progressives to continue the mobilization and the struggle
in all the forms of legitimate protest, as private individuals
in the streets until the intended aims have all been obtained.
14. The Front hails all the committees, associations and forms of
popular self-organization and invites them to widen their
circle of intervention to all that relates to the control of
the public affairs and the various aspects of the everyday life.
Glory to the martyrs of the Uprising, and Victory to the revolutionary
masses of our people!
