To date, we've had a loose process that worked somewhat okay for kicking things off, but now we're at a point where there are implementations and running code to support, etc. People would post ideas and proposals here, we'd bat things around, occasionally vote on things and also try out different implementations of ideas.

To get to Modules 2.0 and to reach some closure on some of the other proposals that have been batting around, it seems like we can benefit from some process that recognizes the people with the most skin in the game: the people who have implementations of various proposals.

I was actually thinking about this a few weeks ago and then BetterMeans popped up on Hacker News:

http://bettermeans.com/

It's free for public project use and seems like a really good fit for us. It provides a convenient mechanism for collecting votes on ideas and recognizing those votes from implementers at a level above those who are just expressing opinions (which are quite welcome as well). BetterMeans also allows "lazy consensus" voting and the like, which is convenient since people don't always have an opinion on things and that shouldn't stand in the way of moving forward.

Here's the CommonJS "workstream" that I've created:

https://secure.bettermeans.com/projects/520

You should be able to sign up as a "contributor" to the project right there. If you're interested and willing to explore this system/process, feel free to sign up there and let's give it a whirl.

OK, it looks like you can't actually become associated with a "workstream" on BetterMeans without an invitation. I'll go ahead and invite the most active people on the CommonJS list. Feel free to email me if you don't get an invite and would like one...

One invite here, please :)

Now it appears that there's a JavaScript bug in the "invite other team members" form. I've reported the problem both through BetterMeans itself and via their support email...

One good thing: at least they're dogfooding :)

OK, they have fixed the bug and I have sent out invites to the people who have requested them. I've tried to figure out how to close the "Membership Application" chore that Kris Kowal set up and I can't see a way to do it... odd.

Anyhow, let's give it a whirl. I'm sure that BetterMeans would be happy to get feedback from us.

I got the invitation but now it is asking me to sign up again to accept
the invitation even though I already have an account and am logged in.

How do you want to send feedback to them? Should we do it individually
or collect it somewhere?

Yeah, that sounds messed up. I was also surprised that I couldn't just invite users who already had accounts directly.

Anyhow, I'd recommend putting feedback up here:
https://secure.bettermeans.com/projects/2

that's the "workstream" for BetterMeans.com itself.

How is the BetterMeans experiment going? (And can I get an invite?)

I think we should use BetterMeans some more, try running some votes and such. The BetterMeans people have been very helpful and supportive. They've already significantly enhanced the invitation/signup process. Part of that is that I can send out this link:

https://secure.bettermeans.com/projects/520/join?token=bd63d0f3c00af4cac02ff99e69ef571121312458

With that link, anyone should be able to become a "contributor" to CommonJS.
