HI all,

First, an apology: I know I've been checked-out lately.  I've been tucked away in my pre-candidate cocoon, where they nurture you on too much coursework.  But the miracle of life happen on May 15, and I'm going to emerge from the cocoon as a beautiful dissertation butterfly, with a more flexible schedule.  I'm hoping to get more involved again once all this mess is over and I get back from California in early July.

Second, a question: is there any interest in a bicycle maintenance class?  A couple people have contacted me, professing their interest in a class much like last summer's, where we met once a week for eight weeks and covered most bicycle maintenance.  Any takers on this list?

Finally, a follow-up: assuming there's interest, who would like to lead this class?  I'm happy to do so, but I don't want to cramp anybody's style if they want to flex their instructional muscles.

Ok. So it sounds like there's a good deal of interest. Next step:
scheduling. I'll be gone until June 7, at which point I return and my
schedule becomes pretty flexible.

For those of you who expressed interest, a few questions:

1. Can you commit to 6 or 8 class sessions spread over the course of
the summer?

2. There are a few possibilities for scheduling. I need to check with
Masa to make sure these possibilities would work for him. Assuming
he's alright with all of the below, which of the below arrangements
would you prefer:
- Weekly meetings. This is how we did it last year, and it
worked fine. It does spread things out over a long time, though.
- Twice-weekly meetings, held every week for three or four
consecutive weeks.
- Twice-weekly meetings, held sporadically throughout the summer.
- Other possiblities that I'm not seeing.
I think I prefer the second option, because it condenses everything
into a short time period. That would both 1) allow more travel
flexibility for everyone, because you only need to commit to being
around for a few weeks; and 2) leaves open the possibility that we
would offer a couple sessions.

3. Can you or do you volunteer frequently at the repair stand? This
class is designed, in part, to train more volunteers for the repair
stand. So it would be really, really, really helpful if you could
spend some time there, practicing your new-found skills.

1.  Yes, depending on the time of the class.  Weekday evenings work best.
2.  Weekly classes would be best for me, but twice weekly would work too.
3.  Yes, I would volunteer at the repair stand.
