I had supported a comic book project and had just received the final product not too long ago. I would add that it is extremely important to be aware of the logistics involved once the project is funded and the books have arrived from the printers. There are a lot of things to take care of - tracking backers, replying to inquiries and actually shipping the books out to the backers. It can be overwhelming if you can't hire anyone to do the grunt work and have to do all these yourself as a one-man-operation.

I agree. I've funded a few projects, including a game. The developer
just stopped working on it and there were no repercussions.

Recently funded an animation film project that was successful, and the
filmmaker has allowed us to view the finished film online.

Still a pity though that you need to be based in the US to use
Kickstarter.
