Hi Simon,

Sorry I might be confused on this - the link shows that you can use
Jetty with GWT to make remote procedure calls (I have this working,
it's great). But I want to use the Cometd chat implementation with GWT
-

If you wanted to use the Cometd chat implementation with raw
javascript, I guess you just run the jetty server, and then make the

 Hi,
I am not sure I follow.
The link I gave does not mention the ContinuationCometdServlet, but
just uses GWT infrastructure (albeit modified) to allow for Comet
style communication.
So you just write your GWT service classes as before, just with a
different superclass.
Simon

 Hi Simone,

I followed that post and got GWT to work with Jetty continuations
after making the necessary changes to the GWT source.

After reading more on this, I guess my problem is that the Jetty
Cometd implementation exposes the ContinuationCometdServlet servlet
class, which uses the:

void service(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse

 Hi,
You may want to start here:
[link]
Also, about passing custom messages, you can use the Comet API to send
any message to your clients.
A chat message or a custom message is exactly the same for Comet, it
is not aware of the content of the message.
Simon

 Hi,

I'm trying to get started with cometd and jetty. My goal was to use
GWT for the client side stuff, and jetty works well with it. I wanted
to use continuations for a chat server, but it seems like cometd
implements all this for us already.

Can we build applications on top of cometd, pass our own custom

 hi,
I'm developing a YUI Cometd client and having fun with a Jetty Cometd
server. The implementation is so far quite smooth.
1. My server do authentication on Hashshake by the ext field. It seems to
be the best timing as connect is not mandatory, and it's no good to check
security on every request.

 Mingfai,
some quick comments.... and I'll give a more considered response later.
There is no requirement to use BayeuxService. It's just a conveniance class.
You can directly use the Bayeux API if you like.
Having said that, I'm happy to consider changes to the BayeuxService class
to make it more friendly.
