Hey, I'd like to do a demo of a mockup tool; the company will give us a
free license to raffle off.

It's balsamiq's mockup. I like it better than any other mockup tool
I've seen thus far.

Any interest?

Also, if anyone's interested, I could talk about ucat -- a "cat on
steroids" script I wrote -- feed it a url, a file, a string, stdin,
etc....

Doh!  Unfortunately, I just emailed the list a week or two ago about the same thing.  I am giving my demo at next month's meeting.

Man, they must have quite the marketing machine going.

A lightening talk on ucat sounds quite interesting though, Matt.

Yeah, what Matt and I didn't mention (but you may have surmised) is that the person doing the demo gets a free license as well.  They have other ways of getting free licenses (such as writing blog posts, etc.). http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mockups/desktop#buy

For the record, like Matt I have used the product and I think it's awesome and very useful, so the demo isn't *just* to get a free license. ;-)

Whups! It's all good, unless we want to double team it & give two
licenses ;-)

Actually, it's a way to get a license. But I'll blog on it....

I do like it a lot, though. I've tried a number of other products, and
this one is my fave (other than #2 pencil)....

Sure. I'd be happy to give it. It was kinda fun to write.

on the topic of possible talks for November's meeting, i'd be more
than happy to give a 10 minute talk on vendor management (and it'll
_actually_ be 10 minutes this time!). i think this would be
particularly beneficial to newcomers because of the (perhaps
overlooked?) number of approaches/tools for solving the problem and
the pros and cons attached associated with each.

i've already got a good idea of what i'd like to cover (assuming
there's interest), but suggestions/constructive criticism are more
than welcome.

Are you talking about tools like Piston, Braid, Git submodules, and that kind of thing?  If so, I'm very interested.  Particularly in those tools that are available to Git.

you've got it. what's more--and time permitting--i'd like to discuss
the challenges of transitioning your local solution to production via
the deployment tool of choice.

Apparently you are more in the know with the cool kids than I am,
Josh. But this awesome, and something I'll look into, thanks!

FYI, tugboat is a deployment solution that i hope to get a working version of this weekend. The concept is making it simple to deploy apps from within a server as opposed to being outside of the server. "Pull" not "push. You'll be able to find it at http://github.com/ryanbriones/tugboat.
