So our Tuesday/Thursday games are over and you are probably thinking
to yourself how much you will enjoy taking a break for the winter...
WRONG! Just because it's cold out doesn't mean there is no Frisbee.
Here's some details of some upcoming Ultimate during the winter season
for you to Check Out...

SUNDAY COLUMBIA PICKUP STARTING

So tuesday/thursday is technically over, but not really. We're just
changing the day for the winter hours. For the winter we will be
playing on SUNDAY at 1PM at the usual field location of HAMMOND MIDDLE
SCHOOL (http://groups.google.com/group/columbia-ultimate/web/
directions-to-hammond-middle-school-primary-fields-we-play-on). All
are welcome, dress warmly.

MONDAY/WEDNESDAY CMUA PICKUP

CMUA (Central Maryland Ultimate Association, http://www.md-ultimate.org/)
runs a pickup game on Monday and Wednesday nights at the lighted
Catonsville High Turf field. There is usually enough for two games to
be played simultaneously, and skill level is fairly high. But anyone
is welcome to come and play.

There is a ONE TIME $10.00 fee for the season to help defray the field
costs, payable the first time you come out.

You can find directions to this field at http://www.md-ultimate.org/directions#CatHigh

SOON TO BE ANNOUNCED WINTER INDOOR PICKUP AND LEAGUE

Every year CMUA runs a winter indoor pickup and league. Pickup plays
for a few weeks, but then changes into a league format. This is great
fun, very athletic play, that I thoroughly recommend to everyone.
Games are 5v5 on basketball court flooring. The cost for this is $10
for the pickup (one time) and then $10 for the league I think.

We should get more details for this soon and I will share them when I
have them.

CMUA OUTDOOR HAT TOURNEY

Last year CMUA did a winter Charity Hat Tournament at CCBC. I don't
know the date or details yet, but will share them with you once I do.

FROZEN ELEPHANT INDOOR TOURNAMENT

The Booya ultimate team from UMBC hosts the Frozen Elephant Indoor
Tournament each winter. This is a 4v4 Hat Tourney open to all, but
pre-registration is required and the number of spots is limited. A
few of us went last year and had great fun. I'm told this will take
place on January 10, 2010, so keep your calendars open. I will share
more details when they are available.

ANYTHING I MISSED?

If you know of anything else happening this winter, feel free to post
it.

I talked with a few people about going out to tomorrow's (Wednesday)
CMUA Lighted Pickup on the Turf Fields at Catonsville HS. I am
planning on going and should be there at 8pm for the start of things.
I'd love to see some other familiar faces out there and people like
Hannah, Kevin, Sharon, etc all said they were going to try and make
it.

So, if you are interested in trying CMUA out and getting some disc
time in, join us. For more details visit http://www.md-ultimate.org/
and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Games run from 8pm to
11pm.

Does anyone know on what date the Wed pickup games will end? I didn't
see that info on the web site.

They usually end in the beginning of December when pickup moves indoors just prior to the start of the CMUA indoor leagues in January.

Dave, Chirs and I each attended last night's pickup.

They had about 30 people, enough for two games with 1 or 2 subs. It
was on the cold side, but survivable. The three of us ended up in a
game with a mix of High School and college kids, and that led to
something of a silly play style. (Dave would say it was a hucking
game, and I would say no more so than Columbia pickup is... but then I
was doing most of the hucking.) I think the other game was a little
less goofy. It got especially goofy by 10pm when the three of us
departed.

I'll be heading out again next week if anyone wants to come out and
see a familiar face.
