WOW! Best Weather Ever for Ultimate Sunday! No doubt that helped feed into our excellent turn out for our first-of-season Sunday at 1:00 PM winter ultimate pickup game. And about a third of the players were new folk so it must be we picked up (pun intended) some players who couldn’t make a weekday game but were good for weekend play. All are welcome; invite some friends too for next Sunday at 1:00 PM.
Now true, eventually it will turn colder. But don’t let the colder weather scare you off. If anything, the cold weather is better than hot. If it is 105 degrees out in the summer, there is absolutely nothing you can do to mitigate the heat. If it is cold out, you can solve the problem with more clothing. You can wear layers and take off extra during play as your body temp increases due to exercise. You’d be surprised how much body heat you can generate running around during Ultimate.
I’ve played plenty of times in winter, even in the snow. I usually start out with sweats but end up taking off stuff once I’ve been playing for a few points. I guess your hands can get cold but gloves will solve that problem; weight-lifting gloves with exposed finger tips work well. And some lip balm (like Chapstick or Blistex) will keep your lips comfy and hydrated.
We’ll also be using a disc-warmer once the really cold weather sets in. It is like those insulated pizza delivery bags. We’ll swap disks during the game to make sure we are always playing with a nice warm disc.
Lastly, Susan Klingmier said she had a sure-fire way of keeping the players’ finger tips warm between points. She didn’t go into particulars so we’ll just have to see what she is proposing to do on the field on game day.
Yea, I’d say give winter play a try; you may like it and it is good exercise at a time of year when you might otherwise be tempted to lay around on the couch eating bon-bons; for example, these guys do not play winter Ultimate:

Best wishes,
