I saw a pretty interesting article on Make: about Artisan's Asylum makerspace. They talk about their model (sort of like an incubator) and they also mention a workshop that I am half considering attending.

I keep thinking that we need to refocus on getting space, or we run the risk of just sort of gradually petering out. Of course getting a space is a risk as well (primarily financial), but I think there are risks to our current mode of operation as well (like a gradual decay of interest, and subsequent loss of members/attendees).

I'm back in town and have some time this week.  Anyone want to get together for a planning/strategery session?

Is everyone available tomorrow at 9 for a Google+ hangout?

I'm up for getting together this week.
I guess I would prefer face to face over beer or coffee as opposed to hangout, but I can make the hang out if that's what people want. Who would be up for a meeting over beer tomorrow evening? I could also do Thursday evening...

"There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory   out there - good for you.

But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of the police forces and the fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory...

Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea - God bless! Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and you pay forward for the next kid who comes along."

Since we're on the topic of finding a space, I found this site that has some properties that look promising, though on some the rent is a little absurd (in my opinion).

http://www.columbiamo.com/

They have some Artist Studios attached to the Artlandish Art Gallery, and they seem like they might be a little flexible with our situation.

We looked at number 12 once before. Apparently it is still unrented at $1100/mo (not surprising, really). I wonder if they would come down on that rent? Number 4 might be interesting at $500/mo with a garage door and everything...

Better to get less than wanted than to have it sit empty.
