I have an old spreadsheet created using Fireworkz32, in which the date
fields are formatted as dd:mm, so that for instance today would appear
as 19 Mar. With the new Fireworkz Pro it doesn't seem to be possible
to do this, so the date appears as the standard 19.3.2012. Not a major
problem but it does make the sheet look a bit untidy. Is there a way
round this, or do I have to live with it?

Thanks in advance,

With best wishes,

Peter.

Works here. Style editor, Date, Change, Date, choose "dd Mmm yyyy"
from menu, delete the "yyyy" (and one "d" if you don't want 01 Mar),
OK. If not already applied, Apply the Date style to relevant cells.

I found I had to click away from that cell before the style became
visible. When I select the cell and then click in the input field at
top of sheet, I still see "20.3.2012" in the input field, whatever
format I specified as my date style, so I presume that's how Fireworkz
stores it internally.

If I select a blank cell and type Sh-Ctrl-D to insert a date, it seems
to have to be one of the first two on the list (20.03.12 or 20/03/12)
or else it apparently isn't recognized internally as a date -- ie, my
altered style definition does not take effect.

Many thanks, Jim, and that has now worked for me. I think the reason
why it didn't is that I hadn't, when loading the sheet into the new
version, applied the Date style to the cells; see more about this
below.

Well, up to a point! I've always entered dates as 20.3.2012, and it
seems that the new version doesn't seem to recognise this
automatically as a date. If I do Style over one of these cells, it
tells me that Fireworkz thinks it's text.

Now, will it apply that style to other sheets where I don't want it?
<Goes and checks> No, it doesn't!

Just out of curiosity I started a new sheet (not letter) and entered
"20.3.12" which became "20.3.2012" in the edit window when I pressed
"enter". "20.03.2012" was shown in cell A1 as that is how date is
formatted in the style "Basesheet".

I then entered "1.1.12" in cell A2 with the same results.

In cell A3 I entered the formula "A2-A1" and "79" was displayed in the
cell.

Has your Basesheet style been altered in any way?

Best regards,

Alan.

Sorry, I'm struggling here, as I don't seem to have a Basesheet, and
there's nothing in the User.Templaates directory, where I might expect
to have found it. It's the same in my archive of the old version. Or
do you mean the file DB_SHEET in Resource.Templates, which I've just
found? This certainly hasn't been changed. Thanks, anyway, for your
interest.

I think Alan means the default entry in the Styles list of any
Fireworkz spreadsheet, which is called "Basesheet" -- like the
"Normal" style in any Impression document.

Oh, I see! No, as far as I can remember I've never changed that entry.
