I'll be cursing and wondering why I can't flash my ATMEGA328p using my
Arduino as a programmer with the ArduinoISP sketch.
We'll be talking about open data, jobs in the area, February album
writing (and music in general), street gangs, video and board games,
and amateur radio.

Cool. Engineering students, or some other kind?

Hmm, should work. Timing issues, perhaps?

Open data is good, at least until the data fills all of the available space.
:-)

Jobs are good, too!

I'm not much of a fan of music, or, at least, the commercially produced,
packaged junk that passes for modern music. :-(
I have started listening to a new radio station, CKTZ, Radio Cortes, which
has a less commercialized, more folksy format (That's pronounced
"C K T Zed".).

Ok, in the interest of full disclosure, my bother-in-law was instrumental
(err, sorry for that pun) in setting it up, and my nephew-in-law is one of
the on-air personalities.

Street gangs are good, although I prefer to refer to them as "urban social
clubs" (However, violence is not good!).

Video can be cool.

Board games are cool. Anyone play chess? Risk? Monopoly? Anyone design
their own board games?

Yep, been doing it for, umm, 36 years now (Hmm, that's kind of scary, now
that I think about it!).
Can't make the meeting, though. I'm fighting technology issues with
inflated rubber items (automobile tires). You'd think that technology would
have advanced to the point where there would be something better than
pneumatic tires by now.

Dave
I also wasn't getting enough power, using a 9v 800 mA wall wart
wouldn't power both chips very long and the voltage regulator got
somewhat hot (though I don't have a scale for what "hot" means). USB
power would die as soon as I connected 5V to the breadboarded micro.
I may try my Pololu 6-pin ISP programmer on it instead, but I didn't
have a linux machine handy last night.

Engineering, I think related to Kentucky Space and the satellite /
cube lab stuff.

Open space is our next initiative, in that case.

Thats a good reason to make your own.

I've played all of those. I'm horrible at most of them. If you're a
fan of Risk and of history you should check out Axis and Allies. Long
set up, long turns, but an overall fun game.

I think they're testing this weekend, and I've never done it. I think
the technician license isn't hard to acquire, something I could
possibly cram for in one night and get. I think it would be an
interesting skill to have. Plus more equipment to buy and hack on!

Drat! I wish I could make it. However, with Kathy's Blazer having a
sore hoof, err, I mean, flat tire, we're carpooling today.

Data always expands to fill the space available, whether that space is a
couple of 80 column punch cards, a 4K core plane, or a 2 TB disk. :-/

Or, find an alternative source. Fortunately, with broadband internet,
you can listen to small community stations from across the continent now.

Thanks.

I agree. One of my buddies, who is a cop, crammed for it in one night and
passed easily.

Quite useful. There are a LOT of different modes.

Or, build your own. Want to build your own Quartz crystal based
frequency reference?

Want to design your own amplifying elements?

Dave
We're maybe having some UK students drop by and 3-D print some components.
We'll be talking about open data, jobs in the area, February album
writing (and music in general), street gangs, video and board games,
and amateur radio.
