Anyone have any experience with MDM servers? Any recommendations for
said devices/appliances? We are looking for one that would be
friendly for iOS devices in particular?

Thanks, Chad

Honestly, I really don't know what an MDM server is.  I'd like to. Does Google Fusion Tables have anything to offer your situation?
Noah told me about it.  We're playing around with it at work and it has some interesting features.  www.google.com/fusiontables/
There is some sort of iOS library that relates.  http://code.google.com/p/gft-objective-c/
That's about as much as I know about it.  If you find something good, please share.

MDM (Mobile Data Mgmt) servers are a way to control your mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.) that can in-turn lead to managing a corporate iTunes account or a corporate Android store account, etc.

We are doing our own research (just starting) but hoped others had gone down this road.  I will happily share what we learn.

Hi Chad,

I work at UK and we did some evaluation / testing of a few.  There are several variations out there - two of the bigger players being MobileIron and SAP/Sybase Afaria.  They're similar in several ways and have a few key differences but we generally decided against it (for now) since most of our mobile users (students) aren't particularly keen on allowing us to 'control' their devices... even though it might be a nice service in some use cases.

If you're supporting just one mobile OS, you have a few more options based on what it is that you're trying to do.  Apple's Profile Mgr might give you all the features you need if you're thinking iOS alone.

Be glad to share any specifics if you have Qs?

Hi Adam, which department do you work for? There are several of us Collexioners who work for the Hive at A&S.

Ha! If only!

Officially - at UKIT... but lucky enough to have a spot where I really float between lots of places.  Know a few of the Hive folks - would love to meet up and learn/meet more.  You guys are doing some cool stuff!
