(d)ave, This is a terrific idea.  We could keep all the bits, and such together for the machine.  Let's do it!  I may build one for home too.  -Derek

Awesome!

Let’s get together and figure out how to turn their model into a job we can cut.  Can you lead that?  I’m VERY eager to learn more about how to do that.

Lets meet up on Wednesday, with an option for Thursday. I'll be there around 9:30, or maybe 10 if I pick up plywood on the way.

Sounds good! If I'm still able to make it, I'll plan to bring my desktop computer that has SolidEdge and MasterCam installed on it. These are probably out of the reach if most diy'ers but at least I can show everyone the steps. SolidEdge is a 3d modeling program and in MasterCam you create the toolpaths and it generates the g-code.

Neat. I'd like to see that.

I think I figured it out in Cambam (by way of Inkscape), but when I ran it inMach3 at home (in simulation mode) it didn't run. Then it Locked up my laptop. Ugh.

I downloaded the free version of Visual Mill (Free Mill) and will tinker with tonight.

I just dropped off two sheets of 1/2" birchplywood, and one sheet of sandply -- a slightly cheaper, but still nice piece of plywood -- at the space. I think we'll be able to cut a few test pieces in the sandply without jeopardizing the good stuff. If I was smart, I would have gotten one sheet of 1/4", and we could have made a 1:2 scale model for $18! ;-)

Derek is going to source the hardware. If you go to Fastenal behind Paul Miller Ford, ask if they have my nuts. I ordered another bag of the 8020 nuts to fill in the few we are missing. Oh, and you can't beat harbor freight for decent casters for cheaps.

No dear, I have them. If you need them for something, I'll let you use them for a while. But remember: "All the other guys are bringing theirs" is not an argument that convinces me.

I picked up all the hardware for the cabinet today, AND my nuts. ( And I didn't even ask for permission, thankyiuberymuch) I dropped them off at the space just now.

They didn't have square nuts, but will have some in for us on Monday.

I  also got a variety of bolts and wing nuts for the t- tracks.
