LVL1 put together a pretty nice t-shirt design for their hackerspace.
It's this:

In any of these colors:

For $10.

Love the fleur-de-lis tech logo. Does Lexington have any sort of emblem, besides a horse?

And, what is wrong with a horse? :-)

I was wondering if the group had considered 3D-printing an icon. Might be able to
sell them to members or something like that.

Nothing, of course...just so over-done.

Hmm...I wonder if L'villers think the same thing about the fleur-de-lis?

As a Louisvillian until just a few years ago, i would say I still love the fleur-de-lis, it's a great symbol and I've seen it used in many different designs like this and it's always cool to see.

Plus whereever I go and see a fleur-de-lis it reminds me of home. When I think of Lexington the main symbol that comes to my mind is 5/3'rd building downtown. :\

Agree with Dave...

A horse is a horse, of course, of course... And rarely does the image
stray from a mid-stride horse in silhouette. A fleur-de-lis is
classically iconic in its own right, and has centuries of historical
implications that come with it.

Nothing wrong with horses, but not only do they get overused, their
overuse tends to indicate that horses are the only self identity
Central Kentuckians have; an identity that relatively few of us
actually interact with.

We have so much more going on than that.

I was liked the story of Smiley Pete, and wished he was a more
recognizable Lexington icon.

A bourbon barrel robot, with Henry Clay's head in a jar (think Futurama)
throwing Kentucky state shamed ninja stars at a running horse? Someone
will buy that!

We have the Collexion flame!

Might also be able to combine the KY state outline with the Lexington
skyline. Something like the everglades logo halfway down this page:

I saw a cool Seattle shirt once where the city name was written in a
fat '70s-style font that was was squeezed into the shape of an
umbrella.

We could always re-purpose that ancient Indian/Chinese symbol of good luck and
eternity:

Umm, err, no, wait a minute...

Hey, could we use lumps of coal? Maybe a coal bucket? Railroad coal car piled
high with coal? Smoke stack belching black smoke?

Umm, err, no, wait a minute...

I always thought a neat lex logo could follow the 'hub and spoke' look of Lexington on a map. Downtown hub w/ a new circle rim. Sorta forms an 'warped wheel' look ... A bike w/ Lexington wheels (man o' war fender even)?  Gear teeth on the outside to go industrial/steampunk?  A pulley hoisting a libation of choice?  Stuff like that.

Put in a 'we are here' pin for the hackerspace and you have geo advertising built right in.
