Hi everyone,

I would like to ask your opinion on the OS choice and version of MySQL server/ client to install.
The context is that we are building all our servers in production with Debian, we normally stick to install software from the standard repositories.
I tried installing MySQL-sever 5.5 on debian 6 and in the end I had to find mysql-server, mysql-common and mysql-client version 5.5from a non standard repository. I found them on
dotdeb repositories.I search a little bit on google to find out that other people installed their galera cluster on Centos using dev.mysql.com rpm repository to complete this task. Still they are using testing packages to install their cluster.

Is it more secure to just stick to mysql-server 5.1 with galera support so everything is right in the base repository?
The alternative to use testing packages would be to install it with Ubuntu 12.04 server that offers these packages in their base repo.

What would you do?

Thank you.

Hi,

Concerning the MySQL version it is definitely 5.5, there is no question
about it.

As for the OS, opinions vary, I'd recommend latest CentOS/RHEL even
though I'm developing on Ubuntu.

Oracle provides official GA RPMs for a host of RHEL flavors, I'm not
sure what you mean by "testing packages"

Or, if you have trouble finding 5.5 debs, try Percona XtraDB Cluster -
they make it all.

Regards,
Alex
