Guys,

I wanted to say thanks for putting on a great class for the kids. I wasn't there due to being out of town on business, but my son Tynan told me how great it was. He couldn't wait to show me the website he designed. My father-in-law said he had the biggest grin on his face all day. He's very excited for the next gathering, he keeps telling me he's going to learn how to build a game.

With that said, are there things he can be doing between now and the next class? I'd like to keep the momentum going.

Thanks again!

Hey there. It was great to have him there and glad he enjoyed it!  Next month we're going to introduce Scratch as a good introduction to programming concepts (it's a drag and drop program from mit) which lends itself towards simple games.  If you wanted to get a headstart figuring out that environment there are lots of tutorials online for that.

To build on what we were talking about, I would suggest http://www.codecademy.com/ where there are a few good projects you can work through. It's not particularly geared for his age, but it comes recommended from other coderdojos as being a great way to level up.

Also, Saturday we went over a fun tool Mozilla created called hackasaurus which makes it easy to explore how any webpage on the internet is made and even to remix the page however you want and share your version with your friends. You can find it at http://hackasaurus.org/en-US/

Do follow up to let us know what does and doesn't work.

I worked with Tynan on Saturday. He expressed interest in publishing his website online. If that's something you're comfortable with, that might be another thing to work on between now and next session.

Joel, is there any chance we could set up an S3 bucket (or something else) to make it easy to publish this work? I have experience with the S3 thing (it's trivial) if you want me to get it started.

I haven't heard back from our other hosting provider so we could pursue something like that.  Alternatively, if we're just talking about static files, we could use github pages which would sit off each member's github account.  http://help.github.com/pages/

Thoughts?

What are we needing in the way of hosting?  Have servers, will travel.
