A number of ninja's on the Wednesday session took home the new Raspberry Pi's. Before they can be used they will need some preparation, the OS needs to be installed. To do this we will need to connect up the Raspberry to a monitor and keyboard and complete the first stage install of installing Raspian. Only when that is complete can we then link the Pi to your laptop. This only applies to the four units in the plastic boxes.

Next week we will hold the Pi session in the smaller breakout room so we can focus on getting these units working and get started on some projects using these new devices!

Thanks

Francis

There is some Sushi cards and session material for the Pi's here: http://coderdojodl.com/session-material/ - feel free to read before the next session!

Good to see some of you trying this at home!.

I checked the new Raspberry's and they have Raspian installed and should boot normally. Normally you need to attached a Monitor/TV to the HDMI port and a USB keyboard and Mouse to the USB ports to use it. However, you can run the Pi in headless mode (with no monitor, keyboard or mouse) with a little patience and a bit of good luck. You will need an Ethernet cable to connect the Pi to your PC/Laptop and a power source (you can usually power the Pi from a USB port on your PC/Laptop). So the sequence of steps we will complete on Wednesday are:

1. Connect Pi to Ethernet Port of your PC/Laptop
2. Power up the Pi
3. Make sure the Lan lights on the Pi light up
4. Enable Internet Sharing on the PC/Laptop
5. Find the IP Address of your Pi
6. Access the Pi using Putty or Terminal Emulator
7. Install TightVNC onto the Pi (only needed for the new Pi's - this is already installed on the older ones)
8. Install TightVNC onto your PC/Laptop
9. Use TightVNC to remote connect to your Pi from your Laptop/PC

Instructions for each of these steps is now on the Session Material on www.coderdojodl.com

Good luck!
