Hey all

This may be on interest to any Dojo in the Greater Dublin area; grants of either €1000, €2000 or €5000 for voluntary groups:

Best

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a little bit about some of the ideas our "fundraising team" have come up with...

Firstly we started with a "clothes drive" This was super simple, we just got all the parents to bring down old clothes, linen etc & we had a collection day.  It was a last minute job, (due to mentors personal restrictions) but we gathered roughly 2-3 cars full of clothes and raised 170 euro!!! We used http://www.fundraiser.ie/ They were fantastic... They also take old mobile phones (no matter what state they're in) and also have an ongoing potential.  If you have a regular premises they will leave a clothing bank which they will service regularly!! They will provide you with a poster that can be edited with your club details.

We are also about to move premises to the local community centre on a trial basis.  The have very kindly given us the space free of charge.  But in turn, they are on board with our fundraising, so long as it is mutually beneficial.  With this in mind, we are planning to host "teenage disco nights" regularly.  We would charge a fee of 5 euro per person.  The centre, which can potentially facilitate up to 300 teenagers.  One of our parents is a DJ but there are a number of upcoming DJ's in the area that could be approached for "work experience" (hence FREE)  Doing the sums... this has the potential to bring in 1500 and even if we split it 50/50 with the community centre that's still 750 euro in our funding. (not forgetting the potential for a tuck shop) Of course this could be facilitated for younger children but the demographic in our particular town has a much larger "teenage" range.

We are lucky to be associated with the Portarlington Community Development Association.  They have an Education Committee who already run summer camps and other training courses.  They have already agreed that they will facilitate a "Cyper Camp" for the town.  Kids will pay up to 65 euro each for this 5 day camp & the teacher will get paid.  It's nothing to do with Coder Dojo & will have a completely separate syllabus.  However any monies generated will go into the CoderDojo funding.

We also have in discussion a "Scrap Saturday"... You would be surprised how many people have scrap metal in their gardens waiting to be disposed of & again... this has potential for a club for raising a few bob :-)

These are just our first big ideas... The fundraising team have only just started within the last few weeks, there's so much more to hash out & figure out... but in saying that I'd be very open to discuss/share and collaborate on anything that will help...

Yours truly.
