There's a checkbox in the speaker submissions form labeled "Previously
Presented?". Does ticking this signify that I've given the talk some else
before or that I've spoken at codemash before? I can think of reasons why
either piece of information may be relevant.

Thanks!

- Greg

It's to indicate if the TALK has been previously presented.

Thanks!

Is that necessarily a good or a bad thing?

Good: Talk is already done, rehearsed, and has received some feedback, etc.

Bad: Talk is less novel, may be less likely to draw attendees, some
attendees will already have seen it, etc.

?

Just curious how it's generally interpreted.

Ah, NOW you're getting into our secret sauce ...

It's neither good nor bad. It's information. We weigh it with everything

I took it to mean the wrong thing and didn't check the box on any of my
submissions. :(

For 2013 would it be too much to also ask where it was presented?  A talk
given at Codepalusa may not be as novel to the crowd as one given in a major
national conference in Brisbane Australia or to a users group
in Albuquerque.

Also, I notice there is no "presentation details" section where the
submitter can provide more details to the selection committee.  This seems
to be an awesome place to add the previously presented information such as
where and when.  I do realize that it often turns into selection committee
pleadings where the world is promised and a globe shaped stress ball is
delivered.  Am I to presume that the absence is also deliberate?

Fellow conference organizer here, though no role with CodeMash and definitely
not speaking on their behalf..

When we score a session for php|tek in Chicago, generally originally is good
*or* a repeat with zero audience overlap.

If you gave it at a recent European conference, probably not an issue.
If you gave it at a Ruby conference in LA, probably not an issue.
If you gave it at your local user group meeting, excellent.

If you gave it two months earlier at another PHP conference.. not so good.

My 0.02,

kc

OK, I think we've got a good bit of feedback here - we'll make sure to
update that text to be clearer for next year.

Sorry for the confusion this year!
