To anyone well-versed in the legalese of cyber-law and lack thereof,

With everyone and their mother buying domain names these days it's easy to imagine someone else with your name (if it's common) snatching up your domain name.  In that sort of scenario there isn't much you can do aside from come up with a new domain name. However, I was wondering if someone with a different name bought your name (as a domain name) for no other reason than preventing you from attaining it, is there any sort of action that could be taken?  I can understand why people "cyber-squat" on domains that relate to or are acronyms for big companies and such, but not why someone would do that with say my name (which isn't the case), since it won't fetch many views (for a while).

I tried doing a little research, but the only group that seemed to have anything to do with this issue has a website with a ton of information that isn't easy to navigate (ICANN).

I was just curious to see if anyone had looked into this issue, or even the introduction of cyber-laws, before.

Happy New Year to all our friends of the Calmer House Gallery!

This Friday, January 8, the gallery is hosting a holiday open house from 6 to 10 p.m. This is our yearly do-it-yourself show, when everyone is invited to bring a matted, framed, and ready to hang photograph, which the gallery will display for the evening. Displaying photographers and visitors will be the art reviewers, and it’s expected that we’ll have as much fun viewing the photos as we will listening to the commentary.

Hope you can join us! If you have questions, please contact us at chg.e...@gmail.com.

The Directors of Calmer House Gallery
Gary Millard, Tom Roach, Paul Shukin, Cyndi Maloney, and Susan Roach
