The developer was non-competent, but evil enough to put a simple back-door entry to execute PHP functions unlink() and mysql_query("DROP TABLE *") to the site he was developing so that he can blackmail the guy who hired him!

That "maybe I needing later" sounds like Indian English... :P

Personally,

I think most developers do this when they are not sure about the client because its safer than sorry.
