exometabolome data mapping to mets in recon2

Dear COBRA users/developers,

Does anyone know how the authors of recon2 paper mapped the cancer exometabolome data to individual metabolites in recon2 ? i.e. how can one map metabolic data to metabolites for which there are no exchange rxns ?

I believe all the reactions they compared to were boundary reactions; the dataset they used was strictly exometabolic fluxes (data from this paper: http://www.sciencemag.org/content/336/6084/1040.full#xref-ref-13-1 ).
