2017 Sterling (Logan) CO CBC

Today was the 19^th Sterling CBC.  14 participants birded the circle in 6 areas and the current species total stands at 60, which is a bit below the 10 year average of 66.7.  The issue today was a strong north wind at between 15 and 25 MPH and getting stronger as the day wore on.  I guess the count highlights would have to include finches as Red Crossbill was recorded for the first time, and at least two parties found Common Redpolls with numbers totaling in the few dozen range.  North Sterling Reservoir was totally ice-free, but all the whitecaps diminished the ice-free benefit.  The four American White Pelicans seen the day before the count held for the morning, but decided to take the express wind out of town and may have been tallied on the John Martin CBC by the afternoon.
