Warren Finch posted the note about Catherine "Birdie" Hurlbutt, one of the 40 DFO founders in 1935. She pioneered Bird Rehab in Colorado, and took all kinds of birds into her home to rescue them. She took pigeons, startlings, sparrows, and anything else that came her way, often picking them up in her 'birdmobile." She also had a non-releasable raven she named "Edgar" and who lived in one of her bedrooms.

She had a simple explanation for protecting every kind: "It shows that somebody cares."
