In the Sodium vapor glow from streetlights illuminating the low cloud
ceiling over Boulder late this evening, I heard a Nighthawk hunting
above. Sunday, I saw a Black Chinned Hummingbird in the field with a
few Bobolinks west of Gaptor and Old Tale roads. When I got home, I
heard and then saw a Black headed Grosbeak in my yard. Chimney Swifts
and Cedar Waxwings are now regular flying over during the day. My
Mulberry tree is full of happy robins and starlings and finches. The
family of crows have gotten pretty testy about the yard as some of
their young have fledged and are staring blankly from the bushes
behind the house. They do not like it when people walk down the
sidewalk and they really let you know it. A few Lesser Goldfinches
have returned. One other bird of note, a very vocal Ruby Crowned
Kinglet has been singing from the spruce trees east of 17th along the
creek path.
enjoy the damp weather.
