I would say that the two applications you mentioned were made possible
by the widespread use of video cards with 3D acceleration in PCs. And
what drove that use was non networked games.

Just curious ....

What if we had both Cobalt and Squeak 3.10 running at the same time
with Squeak 3.10 running headless?

3.10 could handle the calls to Newton, and then use something like
Hydra to quickly share the results with Cobalt.

I know Squeak runs hot, but if it's headless ...

One benefit to dynamic textures is the fact that Cobalt worlds become
much more "Mashable" with them - in that many traditional 2D web
resources have API's that allow the content to be shared as an image
(Google Docs, Google Calendar , Scribblar, etc. among ) - among other
very handy use cases. Perhaps it encourages the use or Cobalt

Needing a little guidance ... needing two functions for a project I am

(1) Loading a dynamic image (instead of loading an image from my

I got in touch with your dispatcher/message router, but it couldn't sync
with the space/island data. Is it still up? (Note that it generates a new
island/session id everytime you start Cobalt, so an old link in ldap will
not work).

click in Link via LDAP server, I get an Error: cannot connect to
190.174.165.144:389. from a LDAPWorker object.

I rather wonder if that relates to a rendering bug I've had related to
that. In displaying the frame rate, or displaying the "Voice chat"
volume, the avatar's pixmap spreads itself all over the HUD and the
only way I can get normal behaviour (sort of) is to first bring up a
"Quit Open Cobalt" box, THEN turn on the framerate or voicechat.

Krestianstvo SDK is built on top of OpenCroquet SDK with preloaded packages
(some of the list: Sophie XUL-CSS, Seaside, OMeta, and Krestianstvo itself).
From now it will be entirely native spoken language based (Russian).

A quick MessageTally on the rc19 shows Tweak a CPU hog. When the "Quit Open

Dunno. I tried the same thing and it froze.
The normal way to join a jabber chat is:
- Launch cobalt by dragging out the blue ball
- Cobalt > My accounts > Add
- Fill out your info (don't use a gmail.com jabber id)
- close the dialog
- Cobalt > Login
- Wait 20 seconds. the menu will change
- Cobalt > <your jabber id> > Join Group

The Cobalt R16 "Please wait while loading ..." indicator gets to 2/3
green on before coming up with walkback "Error:
GL_ARB_transpose_matrix is not present" if that helps anyone figure
out what I'm doing wrong on Vista Home.

Also, I tried R17 but it had a message saying a newer version was
available, pointing to the R16.

Great News! I fiddled around with my network settings to get a LAN
working between my Vista and XP. Then I brought a new download of
Cobalt into my XP and it works!!! I haven't yet gotten it working on

Attached is the output from ipconfig on this machine

xp prof 2002 sp 3 Intel T2300 @ 1.68, with 2 gigs ram.

There are 2 other xps and a vista machine on the Ethernet router that is out
to att broadband.

Gentlemen,

Thank you. The new release had no unzip errors except something I was
asked to accept or skip about the new folders not being encrypted.
Several major Cobalt errors remain on my old Vista. To repeat:
1) The splash screen is unfriendly - it is always on top hiding error
walkback and tools drug out since it never finishes loading and goes

I'm not completely sure what the problem is but given where in the start
sequence it's appears to be happening I'm guessing that it's in the
networking. Could you email me the output from "ipconfig /all" at the
command line?

Based on the failure of the first demo in Croquet to work giving a
similar error, I'm guessing the fatal bug in Cobalt is it REQUIRES a
LAN to exist before letting a user explore locally. A link to
Instructions on how to set one up between a Vista and XP both with
internet access would be helpful. Thank you.

1) The Croquet file extracted perfectly but the latest 2008 Cobalt
file created the list of errors below in WinRAR. Any suggestions?

I would like to help (at least as a tester). I have down loaded the unzipped
opencobalt-1.0alpha1rc16.zip. I run the bat file and get the dark gray
workspace with the cobalt ball in the bottom left corner. I note that the
license and tools tabs are active and the tools tab allows me to drag to the
