Barbara Smith (Author, Activist, and Publisher) relates her work on
"opening up a national cultural and political dialogue about the
intersections of race, class, sexuality, and gender.
Alcoa African American Speaker Series
Living Safely In A Dangerous World -> 6pm, Dowd Room UC
Presented by Citizens Against Crime, this fast-paced program covers dealing
with attackers, protecting yourself, and making safe choices.
Dimensions Series
Student Dormitory Council Meeting -> 7:30pm, Connan UC
Ko Nakatsu's first meeting as SDC President went smoothly, with reports of
success during SDC Week (1000 goldfish distributed). Allocations: $3000 to
Spring Carnival entertainment, $1000 for Health and Fitness Fair all passed
unanimously. Preparations for presenting the AIDS Quilt are underway.

Student Activities
The Bridge Over the Racial Divide -> 4:30pm, McConomy
William Julius Wilson of Harvard University "will address the rising
inequality in American society and the need for a progressive, multiracial
political coalition to combat it.
Office of the President
Student Senate Meeting -> 6:30pm, Adamson Wing
Senate had a full docket last Thursday: approved were the non-funded
recognitions of LINCC, Arab Student Organization, Shinkendo Club and the
funded recognitions of Carnegie Steel and TVCampus. Allocations of $5200
for the Student Film Fest, $500 to SIAM for their booth, $455 to Circle K
for a conference trip, $800 to Carnegie Steel for instrument tuning, $2000
for the AIDS Speaker were approved.
An allocation of $650 to SPIC MACAY for concerts was not approved. A
request from CMU EMS for $2800 to purchase new radios was passed to the
Campus Affairs committee in order to investigate why the Administration is
not adequately supporting vital student services. Campus Affairs will also
be seeking bids on a Health Care Database. Discussion on the revised
Smoking Policy has been delayed until next week.
