 Hi Folks,
We wanted to remind you about the 18th Century Summer Market Fair coming up this weekend on July 18 & 19 from 11 to 4:30.  If you've been to other fairs then you know how wonderful they are.  If you haven't been then I will tell you what to expect.  As you walk down the path from the Farm, you'll visit with the pigs and sheep just before you enter the fair grounds.  Then you'll see the cooking fires with roasting chickens, sausage and corn.  All of the food and beverages can be purchased from the stalls near the fire .  There are meat pies, fruit pies, cookies, bread and cheese, pickled eggs, vegetables and fruit to buy and eat.  Beverages are lemonade and root beer, craft beers (Bell's Lager and Stout and Fuller's ESB), wine, ginger beer and hard cider.
You can sit in the shade and enjoy your food before walking the grounds to visit with the various tradesmen - spinners and dyers, cabinet maker,  basket maker, gunsmith, potter, seamstress and stationer, visit the shop stalls - toys, drygoods, stillatory, millinery and men's and enjoy the entertainment and activities.  Signora Bella the Slack Rope Walker will be here as well as the sailor, fencing master, gypsy fortune teller,  the theatre troupe, dancers, musicians and the puppet show.  There is an auction at 2 pm plus you can paint a fan, play games, make a sachet or a corn husk doll.   The Market Fair is great for all ages, no matter at which end of life you happen to be  "toddling". The weather is supposed to be good and we would love to have you visit with us in the 18th century!
This link will take you directly to the Market Fair page on our website, http://www.1771.org/market_fair.htm ,   for a discounted pass which admits up to 6 people.   Our website has been fixed but Google is still listing it as compromised so you can't access through Google.
The Farm is located next door to the CIA on Colonial Farm Road at 6310 Georgetown Pike in McLean, Virginia .
Thank you so much for your support of the Claude Moore Colonial Farm.
