Sounds pretty annoying that Caroline.

As Simon says (!) the real issue is often a little oversight on the network administration end. However to be fair to the network admins (we are a couple of months away from [link] - remember to take them cake on 27th July!) - some of the common proxies that schools are using (the server software that stops naughtiness on the net) are pretty awful. For example if your school is using websense - a really common one - its a complete headache with anything non-Microsoft just to authenticate onto - even ignoring what is and isn't blocked. It drives me potty.

 Hi Caroline,

Besides the other arguments, this is just lazy network administration - it is easier to block everything than to have to manage exceptions. Technically however they should be able to make exceptions to this - i.e. to allow some iDevices onto the Wireless network (based on their MAC address) and allow some laptops (i.e. yours) to use iTunes (based on your network profile)...

 Hi
Do you have any students who have properly written Statements of SEN that specify the use of ICT. Our Statement specifically states that my sons communication aid can be linked to the school networks ! It is therefore a legal obligation to ensure it happens.
Liza Clements
______________________________ __

 Hi Tina,
thank you very much for the link - I will add it on the graphic-symbols website and definitely spread the word around. Evidence from my research show that there is a need of making available the knowledge and any kind of resources to those who are in the first line of using symbols.
I will hopefully soon add more information on the website and also announce the dates for the conference in Cyprus. I am positive that many of you, you will appreciate both the conference and the sunny weather of the country.

 Hi

There has been lots of discussion since ISAAC announced the formation of an 'ad hoc' committee on FC.

I have asked who the committee members and readers are, but have not heard back yet.

I am working with Marion Stanton(CandLE) to create a document that will go to ISAAC about this issue. CM are very concerned about the ad hoc committee and its terms of reference. We hope we will have something to send over the weekend. I would anticipate the document will either be on the CM website or be sent out with the e-news or both at an appropriate point.
