HI Everyone! I had a conversation with Leslie from CCMA about wouldn't
it be a good thing for the Hometown marathon to have paceers for the
various goal times and she agreed and said that if i wanted to help
co-ordinate it that would be a great help! she agreed with out
reservation to comp the RACE AND THROW IN A FREE RACE ENTRY if the
pacers deliver on their time goal prediction, I think that is what
Andy Fritz told me they do at Marathon Maniacs Tacoma, Andy please
clarify I am sure I don't have it right! so let's spread the word
about this and see if we can help gather a team of pacers, I would
love to not complicate it easier to have one person per pace so they
are arejust as tired as the tose trying to reach their goal! Also
easier to compensate with one much harder to deliever but, Phil
Jaspers brought up the way that Red Lizards do it in Portland, (split
the race up between two so as to make it easy for pacers to deliver
even splits.... I am not at the level to perform the other way anyway
so my opinion does not count. so I need to hear back from those of you
who are gifted and can run a marathoin slower than personal best and
see what we can do, We as a community should have no problem meeting
this task and I think we could do better job than the red lizzards!
what do you think? I Hope that this reaches the Utra runners Herb! and
Karen Stien and Ulrike Krotscheck and the fast girls I will get a
hold of Phil Jaspers and hopfully Bob Brennand thru him! Andy Fritz
would you be our emissary to the Maniacs on this higher mission.

I would definitely love to be a pacer but probably not until next year since I was already planning on running Cap City full. I think that in order to deliver accurate times having pacers split the marathon in half is a great idea. That way both runners have fresh legs and can keep the group right on target. If that adds too many people to the pacer groups maybe Leslie can comp 50% off of the entry fee. Is anyone good at figuring out mile splits while taking all of the hills into account? That would be nice to be able to have some sort of mile split sheet (or bracelets like they had in Portland) for the runners at the race expo. This sounds fun, Bill! Great idea!

Sounds great Bill. At Tacoma the pacers run the whole race. They
need to have run a marathon some 20-30 minutes faster than their pacer
goal in the previous year. If they finish within two minutes of their
goal time, they get that free entry for the next year. Oh and they
get to hold a flag the whole way, that might be the hardest part.
I'll post a note on the Maniacs board. Maybe if there are no takers
for one of the faster times, that could be split up.

what about balloons instead of a flag? they will hold themselves up (and maybe give the pacer a lift... haha) Different colors for different times.
