We've put the NIST Working Definition of Cloud Computing into a google
groups pages format.

Click on http://groups.google.com/group/cloudforum/web/nist-working-definition-of-cloud-computing
- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

I think we are seeing what was predicted some months ago. Each
organization will define a cloud based on their "world view", goals,
roles, and mission.

This is one of the best opportunities to define a set of user
requirements defined as profiles.

A succinct and thoughtful definition that appears to capture much of
the discussion. It triggered a thought around the notion as to how/
whether/when it will become commercially viable, namely how to the
providers get paid.

Someone has to acquire the equipment and make it available for
resource provisioning. Software vendors from OS to Application need
new licensing models to deliver business-sensitive billing (e.g. $ per
order processed). Implicit therefore is therefore security
(authentication, authorisation, access control).

Perhaps not strictly within the technical domain therefore are
"business models", but they will drive critical requirements which if
not satisfied will slow adoption.

Neil.

Peter Mell at NIST just sent me a message informing me that they have officially published the NIST Cloud Definition online at http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/SNS/cloud-computing/index.html

As well, they've published a recent presentation titled "Effectively and Securely Using the Cloud Computing Paradigm"

The material is public domain although attribution to NIST is requested. It may be freely duplicated or translated.
