I've been talking with some of my developers about recreating the
cloudcamp website to be more social and easily managed. We have
extensive experience building Enterprise Social Networks for companies
like Best Buy and Business objects using the Drupal open source
framework. I would be happy to put one or two of my developers on this
project but we need to figure what features and functionality the site
will require.

Here is a brief list of features.

1. Wiki
2. Forums / Social interaction
3. Self service event registration
4. Mailing List management
5. local site creation (i.e. london.cloudcamp.org)
6. Administration and moderation
7. Paypal integration for sponsorships
8. Microformats for events and contacts
9. Video / Picture gallery
10. Blog
11. Reference Library
12. Sponsorship interface for easy logo upload
13. Deployed on a cloud

Hey that's great. Combined with the work I'm doing for other developer communities, I'm sure we can come up with something great.

As far as Drupal is concerned, I think it's great for many things. But sadly its not all that great for others. For example, I find the Drupal wiki functionality to be pretty weak. So rather than commit to using Drupal for everything, i'd like to take a stab at the requiremens for the project and then figure out what the best apps for each would be. Perhaps we decide to do a combo Drupal + MediaWiki or ? + ?. We'll also need to skin it appropriatly.

Do you want to setup a time to talk bout this in more detail?

Ruv, Dave,

That would be great. The requirements list looks good. Of that list
the most important near term features that I would like to see, in
time for the next London CloudCamp, are:

* secure self registration
* wiki for users to plan their own open spaces agendas
* a way to register attendees so that the list is always public (like
the wiki was last time) but so that users cannot accidentally write
their name over another attendee's name in the wiki ;-)

Why not organise a hackathon to get this work done?...setup the
infrastructure (which our company is prepared to sponsor if necessary)
and then get 10 developers together in a room for 24 hours to get the
work done....I find it a great way to get community web sites done
quickly and at no cost.
