if your looking for "slick server setup GUI" have a look at
rightscale.com for EC2. it's saved me a lot of configuration time for
starting instances, backups, network configurations,etc...

just my 2 cents.

JM

On Oct 12, 6:32 pm, "John P. Have been doing the analysis of EC2 and GoGrid. Was starting to lean towards GoGrid because of slick server setup GUI, load balancing included and trial account coupons. I decided search to see if anybody has been having issues and found some articles about server and network performance as recent as a few weeks ago ([link]).

They look very interesting. I wonder how they will fare against folks like
HP who just bought LeftHand Networks, or a software-only solution like
DataCore. When I worked with HP it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to unseat an EMC
shop. Hopefully, new Cloud Providers will be less inclined to maintain the
status quo (and be taken to Hilton Head for golf.)

Much like .NET, Java, or the frameworks in modern OSes.

 Prasanna,

First you need to look at your service requirements in terms of
availability and performance.

1. How much downtime is acceptable for the application/service that
you plan to run on top of an IAAS?

What can you accept on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis? Best in
class availability stands at 99.95%+ or 5 hours of downtime per year?

I agree, having delivered many virtualisation projects we are seeing fundemental issues even with tier 1 vendors. HP is the blade vendor which is proven for us over dell and ibm. However, to undertake an extensive R and D programme to prove emerging server technologies for a cloud computing platform would be viable.

 Dear all,
To follow-up on cloud-computing as a service and the stack (saas, paas,
iaas). The stack is actually bigger as the DataCentre, Management,
Process
and Security layers need to be included to create a Service Oriented
Enterprise (or in this case Service Oriented "Cloud Computing").
The __IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)__, is what we

I agree to this from Paas point of view.

As for as my understanding goes, Iaas is "Infrastructure" as a service and
it includes Software and Hardware infrastructure. So anybody who is
providing a service where your hardware and software needs are met at one
point, one may refer to it as Iaas provider.

Very interesting conversation. You have seen and done good research on
these terms. Rod is pretty good in the analysis. IaaS is becoming the
compute and associated physical resources agnostic of OS and
associated development platform. I would characterize the IaaS is an
independent layer of "as a Service" where processing, memory, and
