Anybody have an idea why the current crop of cloud services are so stingy with memory?
Where are the 2-core/8GB, 16-core/64GB options?
When should I expect a cloud offering to appear with a diskless option in the mix?
How about a cloud service based on non-virtualized scale-out hardware with apis managing boot images and networking?

cheers,

You mean like the "bare metal cloud" at http://newservers.com/?

Yeah, like that - thanks! Seems like a reasonable implementation, if not quite baked yet. I guess the main problem (or at least a problem) on the business side is the lack of critical mass of apps designed for scale out and/or elasticity, which forces that approach to keep a bunch of different sized hardware around?
