Hi,

Honestly, I really miss our meetings. Did not have a chance to participate in more then a few but it was enough to plant a seed which is now growing into quite a healthy plant.

Is anybody interested resuming those, especially that a lot of is happening. I will also attend ClojureWest and was wondering if anybody is going.

Best,
Andy

Your timing is perfect.  I actually started getting back into Clojure over the last couple of days.  I watched Rich Hickey's talk on core.async and was really impressed.  I've been playing around with the Pedestal tutorial.

I would really like to attend ClojureWest but don't have the money.  I went a couple years ago and it was the most enlightening conference I've ever attended.

I'm up for attending Clojure meetups.  I'm willing to help organize.

Glad to hear it. Saw Rich's as well as this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enwIIGzhahw too. Indeed it all looks very good. I recently completed SICP videos one more time and paid real attention to the content this time. Some stuff is absolutely timeless.

As far as the meetup goes, I do not have any connections with the place we used to have meetups at, perhaps Tomasz or Paul would help out to start things up. I would love to deep dive into 4clojure problems and do some group hacking. I might have somebody from my team joining us too.

BTW, I was lucky to get my Clojure West trip sponsored and align it with other stuff.

Hey all

I'm happy to pitch in and try to establish a meeting place. As far as running the meetings… I still don't think I'm far enough along with Clojure to do that. But hey, sure… even if it's just going over 4Clojure problems, that'll work.

I can ping UACT, where we had the last few meetings over in Tempe. Additionally, I can look at Gangplank. They have offices in Chandler and Avondale, and are generally willing to offer up space to UGs.

Let me know if there's an area that works best for most folks, and I'll make some calls.

Thanks,
Charlie

I'm giving a talk at DCC on Om/ClojureScript:

http://apr2014.desertcodecamp.com/session/995

Might be a good chance to let people know that we're starting the Clojure group back up.  If we get a first meeting set up before DCC, I could announce it to whoever shows up for the talk.

My vote is for UAT on meeting place.  I don't have a strong preference, but central would be good.  A coffee shop even would be fine (Cartel Tempe or Scottsdale are open late).

Very nice on the Desert Code Camp talk. Will definitely try to be there.

I like the idea of a coffee shop for meetings. Especially right now, while we're still pretty small. Makes it easier to grab a bite on meeting nights as well :)  The Ash Avenue location of Coffee Cartel works for me.

If that works for everybody else, want to shoot for setting up a regular date/time? Last Weds of the month? 7:00?

Sounds good to me!  That would put the next one on April 30, unless we want to do this Wednesday.

I can do this Weds.  Anybody else?

Greetings from Clojure/West. '(->> (periodic-seq (time/date-time 2014 4 2 19) (time/days 7)) (partition-by time/month) (map sort) (map last) flatten) work for me. Also I am agnostic about a location with a slight east valley bias (less driving for me).

Cannot make this Wed though, would it be possible to have it in a week instead?

Cheers,
Andy

A week from Weds works for me as well. If that's good for everybody else, we can do that, and then decide on a standard meeting date/time.

Yeah next Wednesday is good for me.

Cool. We'll officially (ooh!) meet up at Coffee Cartel in Tempe on April 2nd.

Is 7pm too late for anybody? I'm coming from the west valley, and figure that'll give rush hour traffic a chance to die down.

Thanks,
Charlie

I will be there. Clojure/West is over and was blown away beyond what anticipated. One unsession A dose of typed theory lead to over 2h very objective discussion (as some guys had Haskell background) and we examined like 10 different aspects of dynamic vs static.

Videos are already out including some ideas how to run a Clojure meetup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeWP60DK6O0 especially when we want to be open for beginners. Also this is a must watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFctG2Tp2A0 .

See you there,
Andy

That was a perfect doze of good ideas from Clojure (Om, STM, Persistent Data Structure). And a lot of interest from the audience. Thank you,
Andy
